In 5 days time on 21 January to 24 January, AKB (with SKE and SDN) will hold their yearly concert at the Shibuya AX, and perform 25 songs each day (not including encores) for 4 days in a row. The top 100 songs will be voted by the fans out from a total of 255. The voting period is over. For most of us foreign fans, we are only entitled to 1 vote via the RIVER single.
The Request Hour concert is basically a battle between the fans to see which song they like, but more importantly also a battle to see your Oshimen's unit in the ranking. This is especially if your Oshimen has graduated. Graduated girls are invited to perform for the concert if their unit is in the ranking. So the Hana Oshimens are gonna vote up Faint, Rinatin Oshimens are gonna vote up Ashita wa, Junjou Shugi for Matsuyuki, Temodemo for Mikacchi, etc. So I'm expecting those songs to be high on the ranking.
I'm gonna say that Team K will have the hardest time compared to the other Teams to get high spots on the ranking. Sure they have a brand new stage compared to Team A but it ain't exactly the best stage ever except for a couple of songs. Plus the Team K fans will be split because Yuko, Sayaka and Erepyon have solo songs and their oshimens are probably gonna vote only for that song instead of the group/unit songs. Team B has the advantage of having lesser songs since they only have 2 stages so far. This means that Team B fans don't have to make so much of a choice compared to A and K fans. Plus if the Team B fans group together again like last year, were gonna see Shonichi very high up. But then Team A has the advantage of having the more popular members and therefore more fans which means we will see lots of Team A frontgirl units high in the ranking. Also going to be high in the rankings will be the subgroups No3b and WH.
A top 29 halfway result was released sometime ago before the voting ended. Here are the results. Songs like Aitakatta are actually listed by their Stages by the Management but for convenience sake I will list them as Single.

Compared to last year, there are quite a number of Singles high up. Aitakatta was ranked 73 last year. As I predicted, Naki Nagara and First Love got high spots. Team A has the most songs in the top 29 but Team B's Shonichi is still ranked quite high. I am surprised at the lack of WH in he ranking but I think they are around the 30+ area and barely missed. The same goes for the Graduated girls. Tonari no Banana stands alone as the only Himawari song. Note that the list is probably gonna change quite a bit when we finally see them perform. I'm expecting WH to rise up, more B and K songs, and also the 2 K solos to go slightly down, and Sayaka's solo to go up. I'm also expecting a couple of SKE and SDN songs somewhere in the list.

For those of you who have voted, what songs have you voted for? My vote goes to Confession. It was originally going to either Tsundere! or Korogaru whichever was lower in the ranking during the halfway result. But wow Tsundere! at 13 and Korogaru at 16! With those two safe I went for my 3rd choice of Confession not only because my 2 oshimens perform it and I may have a chance to see both of them together, but also because I love the song to death.
